Offence of Employing An Illegal Immigrant

Do you know that it is an offence for employing an illegal immigrant? I believe that many employers have the preference over the immigrant than the locals due to low salary demand. But under the law, it is a criminal offence for employing an immigrant who is not in possession of a valid pass.

As stated in Section 55B (1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, any person who employs one or more persons who is not in possession of a valid Pass then he shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction he shall be liable to a fine of not less than RM10,000 but not more than RM50,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both, for each such employee.

Therefore, if you're arrested for employing 5 illegal immigrants, and on conviction, the judge sentenced you to fine of RM10,000 for one employee, then the grand total of fine would be RM50,000 (for 5 illegal immigrants that you employed)
